About Our Sets
What material are the tiles made of?
Our tiles are made from 4-layer acrylic — a dense, durable material that gives each tile a satisfying weight and a smooth matte surface. This is meaningfully better than the single-layer plastic used in budget sets, and it holds up to years of regular play. The suit markings are laser-engraved directly into the tile face, so they never fade or peel.
How many tiles come in a set?
Every MahBlend set includes 166 tiles — the standard count for American Mahjong. That’s 152 playing tiles plus 8 Jokers and 6 spare tiles. You’ll have everything you need to play a complete game right out of the box.
What size are the tiles?
Our tiles measure approximately 1.18″ x 0.87″ x 0.47″ (30mm x 22mm x 12mm) — the standard size for American Mahjong sets. They’re sized to handle comfortably, easy to read across the table, and compatible with standard racks and pushers.
Are these American or Chinese Mahjong sets?
These are American Mahjong sets — configured and numbered for the style of play most popular in the United States, using the National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) system. They include the full complement of tiles required for American play, including Jokers. If you’re familiar with Chinese or Hong Kong Mahjong, you’ll notice some differences in tile count and suit numbering.
What’s the difference between Standard and Premium sets?
Both lines use the same 4-layer acrylic construction and laser engraving. The Premium sets ($219) feature deeper color saturation, additional custom engraving details on select tiles, and a more structured carrying case with a locking clasp. Standard sets ($199) offer the same play quality in a cleaner, more minimal presentation. If this is your first set or a gift, Standard is a beautiful choice. If you’re treating yourself to something special, Premium is worth the step up.
Do the sets come with racks and accessories?
Yes. Every set includes 4 racks, 4 pushers, 2 dice, a wind indicator, and a betting coin set. All accessories are stored in the included case. Everything is sized and styled to coordinate with the set — nothing mismatched, nothing missing.
How heavy is a set?
A complete set weighs approximately 6-7 lbs (2.7-3.2 kg) in the case. It’s solid and satisfying to carry — you feel the quality before you open it. Most players find this weight reassuring rather than burdensome.
Ordering & Shipping
How long does shipping take?
Standard shipping takes 5-8 business days within the continental US. Expedited shipping (2-3 business days) is available at checkout. We ship from our US fulfillment center, so there are no customs delays for domestic orders. You’ll receive a tracking number by email as soon as your order ships.
Do you ship internationally?
We currently ship to the US, Canada, and select international destinations. Shipping rates and estimated delivery times for international orders are calculated at checkout. Please note that international orders may be subject to customs duties and import taxes, which are the responsibility of the recipient.
Is shipping free?
Free standard shipping on all US orders over $150. Since all our sets are priced at $199 or $219, every order ships free. No code needed — it’s applied automatically at checkout.
Can I track my order?
Yes. You’ll receive a shipping confirmation email with a tracking number as soon as your order leaves our fulfillment center. Click the link in that email to follow your package in real time. If you don’t see the email within 24 hours of ordering, check your spam folder or contact us at hello@mahblend.com.
Can I cancel my order?
Orders can be cancelled within 2 hours of purchase. After that, the order is typically already processing for shipment and we may not be able to stop it in time. If you miss the window, don’t worry — our return process is simple and we’ll take care of you.
Returns & Quality
What if my set arrives damaged?
That’s on us, and we’ll make it right immediately. Email hello@mahblend.com with your order number and a photo of the damage. We’ll send a replacement set or the specific damaged components — whichever makes more sense — at no cost to you. No return required for damaged items.
What if tiles are missing from my set?
Every set is quality-checked before it ships, but if you find a missing tile, contact us and we’ll send the replacement pieces right away. Just email hello@mahblend.com with your order number and tell us what’s missing.
Can I return a set I don’t like?
Yes. We offer a 30-day return window for sets in original, unused condition. To start a return, email hello@mahblend.com with your order number. Return shipping is the customer’s responsibility for preference-based returns, but we’ll provide a prepaid label for any defective or incorrectly shipped items.
Do you offer a warranty?
We stand behind the quality of every set we sell. If a tile cracks, warps, or shows a manufacturing defect within 6 months of purchase, we’ll replace the affected pieces at no charge. Normal wear from regular play isn’t covered, but genuine defects always are. Just reach out with your order number and a description of the issue.
About Mahjong
Do I need the NMJL card to play?
If you’re playing American Mahjong by the official National Mah Jongg League rules, yes — the NMJL publishes a new card each year with the winning hand combinations, and most American games are played with it. The card is sold separately by the NMJL and runs about $14/year. Our sets are configured to work with the NMJL card out of the box. If you’re playing a casual or house-rules version, you can play without it.
How many people do you need to play?
American Mahjong is traditionally played with 4 players. Some variations allow 3 players with adjusted rules, but the standard game — and the most fun version — is 4. Our sets are configured and accessorized for a 4-player game.
Can beginners use these sets?
Absolutely. Our sets don’t require any prior mahjong experience to enjoy. If you’re new to American Mahjong, we have a beginner’s guide on our How to Play page that walks through everything from tile identification to game flow. Many of our customers buy their first set before they know how to play — the game is easier to learn than it looks.
Gifting
Do you offer gift wrapping?
Our standard packaging is already gift-ready — every set ships in a clean, branded outer box that presents beautifully without any extra wrapping. If you’d like to add a personal message card, select “Add a gift note” at checkout and we’ll include it with your order.
Which set is best as a gift?
For a first gift, we usually suggest starting with the recipient’s personal style. If she loves classic, refined aesthetics — Pearl Elegance or Jade Garden are perennial favorites. If she leans more bold and modern — Lavender Dream or Royal Amethyst tend to be the most admired on the table. Not sure? Rose Petal is our most versatile kit and the one we recommend most often as a gift. You can’t go wrong with it.
Can I include a personal note?
Yes. There’s a gift note field at checkout — write whatever you’d like and we’ll print it on a MahBlend notecard and include it inside the box. Notes up to about 150 characters print cleanly on our standard card size.
